Being a mom means running around after little humans day in and day out. This rarely leaves much chance for you to do anything for yourself other than the basics. Often, this means relying on the classic mom-bun more often than you’d care to admit, and making the most of a quick slick of mascara in the hopes that it will be able to draw attention away from the dark circles under your eyes. However, while your time is obviously limited, it doesn’t mean that you can’t do small things to make yourself feel beautiful and radiant each and every day. You certainly deserve to. Here are some tips.
Indulge in ‘me-time’
You can’t pour from an empty cup, so taking proper care of yourself should be a priority. This goes for both your physical and emotional health. Taking a minimum of 30 minutes for yourself each day is a great place to start. Don’t use this special time to get the dishes done or to catch up on some work. Instead, use it to treat yourself to something you enjoy, such as a bubble bath, a glass of wine, or a great book (or all three at once).
Invest in a beauty or fashion item you adore
Does that flowing maxi dress make you feel as though you can conquer the world? Perhaps those classic Annoushka pearl earrings leave you feeling like a beautiful princess. Sometimes, material items can make all the difference when it comes to lifting your spirits and boosting your confidence. If you happen to find one, do not hesitate to buy it. You will be so glad that you did when you need a pick-me-up on those trying, challenging days when you’re feeling tired and defeated.
Learn to love your body
There is no denying the fact that having children transforms your body in many ways. While it is probably impossible to ‘get back’ the body that you had before kids, there is nothing stopping you from loving and embracing the body that you have now. Those ‘tiger stripes’ and wobbly bits are the ultimate proof of the incredible things that your body has done over the years. Ultimately, it is the reason why you have such gorgeous little ones to cuddle. It nourished them, protected them, and helped to bring them into this world. What’s not to love?
Make new ‘mom’ friends
It is wonderful to have a group of ‘mom’ friends who understand exactly what you are going through, and who are sure to build you up whenever you are feeling down or burnt out. ‘Mom’ friends always go the extra mile to help each other to feel beautiful, so if you don’t have any, go out and get some now.
Ultimately, when you believe that you are beautiful and radiant, you won’t need much help in order to embrace that belief each and every day. Self-love and self-care are of the utmost importance. Make looking after and loving yourself a priority and watch how quickly your attitude begins to change.
